Hotels, airlines and attractions all know to offer better deals in their off-season.
- Many cruise lines have a lull period right after Christmas or New Year’s until mid-February, when income tax refunds come. Check availability, because off demand days in this time period can save you over 50%, if not more.
- If you are able to getaway last minute, some of the best cheap vacation spots are found on travel websites, under “Last minute deals”, but they also get their best discounts by off-season and off-peak times, and planes, trains, or boats that still have a lot of vacancies last minute.

- Historic sites or National and State Parks - This is a great educational trip and you can plan as many or few as your schedule and gas tank allows.
- Festivals and County or State Fairs - It seems there are festivals everywhere, in all seasons, whether it’s Dogwood Festival, Apple Festival, Summer carnivals or State Fairs.
- Wineries or open air Farmer’s markets - These are delicious and fun. You can find cheap finds and enjoy many different treats and specialties to eat and drink. Savor this fun.
- Flea Markets and Garage Sales - Make a day of it even a game of it. How? Everybody starts with the same amount of spending money and by the end of the day, see who comes up with the best finds.
